Original oil painting on canvas, 20x24"

With the Wind at My Back is more than a painting; it's a reminder of the strength found in letting go and the beauty that emerges when we align ourselves with the natural rhythms around us.

This gorgeous autumn toned painting was inspired by one of my absolute favorite places in the DC area: Huntley Meadows. It is part forest/part marsh with a low boardwalk that allows one to feel a part of landscape, among the frogs, snappers, muskrats, geese and other waterfowl.

While living in the area I took the time to visit several times over 8 months and watched as the seasons unfolded. This particular scenes was from a late October visit. The sun danced between clouds and highlighted the various foliage. As with most of my work, I have attempted to portray the wind moving throughout the tall wild grasses.

About the Collection

The Artwork in this collection are intended to evoke peaceful memories, both yours and mine. While walking through meadows, beautiful grass weaves and tangles and tickles our legs as we move through it. There is almost constant movement and yet calm stillness and a sense of grounding.

About the Mission

The tall wild grasses of our prairies and meadows play an important role in the health of the planet. I hope to pay tribute to them with my work and encourage others to appreciate them and encourage their growth.

I work as sustainably as I can and choose oil paint as my medium in part due to it's being derived from nature. (I also simply love painting in oil!) I avoid toxic pigments when ever possible and prioritize naturally occurring ones over chemically made. I also opt for sustainable packaging whenever possible. As I grow my business I will continue to choose earth friendly practices and options.
